Welcome to the home page of 1st Calow (St. Peter’s) Scout Group.

2009/10 promises to be another exiting time for the Group, with many activities already planned…details of these will be posted very shortly.

2008 saw the Group celebrate our 75th Anniversary.

The Group had a number of major events taking place throughout the year to mark the occasion.  In January, the Group performed It Ain’t Half Cold Mum over two nights at the Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield in front of a total audience in excess of 900.

In early May Cubs, Scouts plus Canotila Explorers enjoyed a Weekend Camp together at Walesby.  On the Sunday they were joined by the Beavers and many parents/guardians and friends of the Group.

In late May the Gang Show was performed twice in one day at Calow Community Centre in a slightly truncated form under the title It Ain’t Quite as Cold Mum.  All profits from that event were presented to Calow Community Association.

October saw the Group host an exhibition ‘75 Years Young’ over two days at St. Peter’s Church hall.  This was attended by many past group members…some from the Group’s earliest days.

The exhibition was followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Peter’s Church, during which new flags were blessed for the Cubs, Scouts and Canotila Explorers.

The final major event to mark the anniversary was the construction of a ‘Memorial Garden’, the first phase of which was completed in March 2009…to mark the end of the 75th Anniversary celebrations.

The garden was officially opened by Barry Parker, an ex-Calow Scout who joined the group in the 1930’s.
