Calow is a village 2 miles east of Chesterfield, a historic market town in Derbyshire, England.
1st Calow Scouts were formed in 1933.
The group encourages and nurtures the true values of Scouting, and is active in all aspects of traditional Scouting activities. Many members join the group as Beavers and remain at Calow until they reach the age at which they can join Explorers.
We are actively involved with the local community through links with the Calow Primary School, St. Peter’s Church and the Community Association, and take part in many community events throughout the year.
The group has international links. In 2001 and 2006 the Scouts and Explorers from the group visited our friends from the 25th Nepean, in Ontario, Canada. We have hosted the Canadians on two occassions, 2000 and 2005, when they joined us at ‘Peak’ the five yearly international camp in Chatsworth Park, Derbyshire.
Ist Calow will be welcoming Scouts from the 25th Nepean once again in the summer of 2010 and plans are already underway for a return visit to Canada in 2011.
The Cub section have also established links with a pack in South Australia…more details will be posted shortly.
